The Central Government has given the green signal for the construction of the northern stretch of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Telangana. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued fresh tender notifications by reducing the project packages from five to two. The six-lane greenfield regional expressway will be developed from Girmapur in Sangareddy district to Tangadpally in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district across a total length of 161.518 kilometres at an estimated civil construction cost of ₹9,362.4 crore. Package-1 covers 83.518 km from Girmapur to Pragnapur in Siddipet district with an estimated cost of ₹4,918.71 crore, while Package-2 includes a 78 km stretch from Pragnapur to Tangadpally costing ₹4,443.69 crore. NHAI has invited separate bids for both packages, with July 7 fixed as the last date for online bid submissions and technical bids scheduled to open on July 8.
The project will be executed under the Design, Build, Operate and Transfer (DBOT) or Hybrid Annuity Model. After facing delays over the last two years, the project has finally moved forward with revised planning. Earlier tenders issued in five packages failed to attract bids due to incomplete documentation uploads. Land acquisition is progressing rapidly, with over 70 percent of awards already declared. The RRR northern corridor will include 44 major bridges, 127 minor bridges, four road overbridges, 44 underpasses, 1,262 culverts and nine toll plazas. The expressway will connect with national and state highways at nine locations, significantly improving regional connectivity around Hyderabad. If the tender process progresses smoothly, the northern stretch of the RRR is expected to be completed by 2029.
