Heavy rains that lashed Visakhapatnam over the past two days have severely affected the preparations for the International Yoga Day celebrations, popularly known as Yogandhra. Authorities had made elaborate arrangements to conduct large-scale yoga sessions at RK Beach, RVC Beach, Team Beach, and several major junctions across the city.
However, continuous rain and strong winds damaged the stages, tents, carpets, mats, and banners set up for the event. Several yoga venues were submerged in rainwater. Although the rainfall has reduced temporarily, the Meteorological Department has warned of more showers in the coming hours. Officials are now considering shifting the yoga sessions to indoor stadiums or exploring alternative arrangements for the June 21 celebrations.
