Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Australia, toured the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and reiterated India's ambitious sporting vision. He stated that India is set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and is making determined efforts to secure the 2036 Olympic Games. Modi said the government is committed to developing world-class sports infrastructure across the country to successfully host these prestigious global events. He also expressed happiness over the proposed Big Bash League match in Chennai, adding that hosting international sporting events in India would significantly enhance the league's global reach and popularity.
During his visit to the MCG, Prime Minister Modi interacted with young cricketers and signed their jerseys. He also met emerging sports talents and spent time with Australia's official mascot, "Ruby the Roo." The event was further highlighted by the presence of former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh, who welcomed the Prime Minister at the stadium. Addressing the gathering, Modi said that stepping into the MCG evokes two emotions for every Indian—memories of the intense India-Australia cricket rivalry and the realization that cricket is not just a sport but a shared passion connecting both nations.
