A Massive Stake for Dhoni in CSK?

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has shared a long-standing association with Chennai Super Kings since the inaugural IPL season and has led the franchise to five titles as captain. However, after missing the entire season this year due to injury, speculation has intensified over his possible IPL retirement and whether he could take up the head coach role following Stephen Fleming’s departure. Amid these discussions, reports have also claimed that Dhoni was seeking a stake in the CSK franchise. Former India opener Aakash Chopra has now reacted to the reports.

Chopra said CSK could potentially be valued at around $1.8 billion but dismissed reports that Dhoni had sought a 25% stake in the franchise. He also questioned claims that negotiations later involved 20%, 3.5% to 5.5%, and eventually 2% to 3% stakes. According to Chopra, it would be unrealistic for a franchise to give such a massive share to an individual. He described the entire sequence of reports as something that appears to have been fabricated and said he did not believe the claims were genuine.
