Prime Minister Narendra Modi successfully concluded his week-long visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand on Saturday and departed for India after completing a series of high-level engagements. The final leg of the tour marked a historic milestone, as Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit New Zealand in nearly 40 years. During the visit, India and New Zealand agreed to elevate their bilateral ties to the level of a Strategic Partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.
In a significant diplomatic gesture, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon personally came to the airport to bid farewell to Prime Minister Modi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the visit had further strengthened bilateral relations, deepened strategic partnerships and laid a strong foundation for future cooperation between the two nations. The three-nation tour is expected to further enhance India's engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
