

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has revised passport fees under the Passport Rules, 1980. The new fee structure will come into effect from July 1, 2026. Applicants seeking a new passport will now have to pay higher charges. The fee for a 36-page ordinary passport has been fixed at ₹2,500, while the Tatkal service will cost ₹5,000. For a 60-page ordinary passport, the revised fee is ₹3,500, and ₹6,000 under the Tatkal category.
Replacement charges for lost or damaged passports have also been increased. A 36-page passport replacement will cost ₹5,000 under normal processing and ₹7,500 under Tatkal service. For a 60-page passport, the replacement fee has been fixed at ₹6,000 under regular processing and ₹8,500 under Tatkal service. The revised charges are expected to increase the overall cost for individuals planning international travel.
