Rising input costs and continued global uncertainty are pushing India’s leading FMCG companies towards another round of price increases. Britannia, Hindustan Unilever and Godrej are among the major companies preparing to raise prices during the September quarter as higher manufacturing costs put pressure on their margins.
The companies had already taken steps during the June quarter by reducing the grammage of some products and increasing prices of others. With international conditions remaining uncertain and El Niño adding to cost pressures, FMCG firms are now preparing for further hikes. Prices of select products could increase by around 2–5%, potentially adding to the household spending burden.
