A notorious fraudster accused of cheating people through online marketplace platforms and wanted in multiple cases across several states has finally been arrested in Tamil Nadu. The accused, Ajith Kumar, had earlier escaped from Guntur Government General Hospital while undergoing treatment after being remanded in a criminal case. Following his escape, he allegedly went into hiding in Tamil Nadu with the help of relatives and resumed fraudulent activities through online vehicle sale scams.
Police said the accused recently cheated a victim of ₹11 lakh by posing as a vehicle seller on an online marketplace. The money was transferred to the bank account of a jewellery shop owner in Tiruppur under false pretenses before Ajith Kumar allegedly collected gold and disappeared. Investigators traced him using CCTV footage, vehicle details, and other evidence. During the investigation, police discovered that he frequently changed SIM cards, used drivers’ mobile phones to commit fraud, traveled in rented vehicles, and shifted locations regularly to avoid detection. Authorities said he even attempted to bribe police officers after being detained. Further investigation is underway to identify additional victims and uncover the full extent of the fraud network.
