India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has instructed airlines to take precautionary measures ahead of the upcoming winter fog season to minimise disruptions to flight operations. Airlines have been asked to ensure that appropriately qualified crew members are available to operate flights in low-visibility conditions. The ministry has also emphasised compliance with applicable aviation safety regulations and urged airlines to prepare flight schedules that reflect expected weather conditions and operational realities.
According to forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the fog season is expected to continue from December 15 to February 15. Against this backdrop, the Civil Aviation Ministry held a review meeting on Tuesday with officials from various departments and representatives of the aviation industry. Discussions focused on measures to reduce passenger inconvenience during flight delays, cancellations and schedule changes. The aim is to improve operational preparedness and ensure that passengers receive appropriate support and information when fog affects flight services.
