Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on India to embrace future technologies, pursue innovation boldly and take a leading role in developing next-generation solutions. Speaking at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2026 on Tuesday, he said India was advancing in science and technology with fresh thinking and growing confidence. He stressed that the country's goal was to develop technologies that address the needs of India and the world, both today and in the future. Modi noted that decades ago, technologies developed elsewhere often took years to reach India, whereas the country was now moving forward with new ideas and greater technological ambition.
Modi also warned about the growing cyber threats to economic and national security in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). He called for AI-powered quantum solutions that could protect critical national systems while serving humanity. Highlighting the importance of nuclear energy in achieving the Viksit Bharat vision, he said India was developing fast breeder reactor technology. He added that chips manufactured in India were reaching global markets and that research was underway to improve battery storage capacity. Modi also referred to progress in the space sector, including Skyroot's Vikram-1 launch initiative, as well as the development of wireless and satellite communication systems by Indian companies. He stated that ₹12,000 crore had been spent on research in the public sector during the previous year.
