Japan Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, currently on an official visit to India, attended the annual India–Japan summit held at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Following the high-level talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a state banquet in her honour. During the cultural programme, Modi encouraged Takaichi to try playing the traditional Indian instrument, the santoor. Initially hesitant, she was guided by Modi on how to play it. Soon after, she played the instrument in a light-hearted manner, drawing applause from everyone present. Modi later shared the video of the moment on social media, where it quickly gained attention.
Speaking after the meeting, Modi warmly described Takaichi as his “younger sister” and praised Japan’s vital role in India’s growth journey. Takaichi expressed happiness over Modi’s affectionate gesture. During the discussions, both nations agreed to work towards an economic partnership framework and jointly develop defence equipment. Key areas of cooperation include artificial intelligence, energy supply systems, shipbuilding, aviation, and logistics. The meeting further strengthened bilateral ties and highlighted expanding strategic collaboration between the two countries.
