BCI Chairman Apologises to NALSAR Students

The Bar Council of India (BCI) had imposed a ban on the enrolment process of NALSAR’s 2026 batch after allegations that some students had campaigned against Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant. However, the BCI later withdrew the decision, stating that it would be inappropriate to punish all students for the alleged actions of a few. The university has also been asked to submit a report identifying the students involved in the campaign and the teachers who allegedly encouraged them.

The BCI’s action was criticised by CJI Justice Surya Kant and the NALSAR administration. Following the controversy, BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra wrote a letter apologising to NALSAR students. The apology came amid concerns that the entire student body should not be held responsible for the alleged actions of a few individuals.
