A new chapter has begun in the development of North Andhra with the commencement of commercial operations at the prestigious Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram district. Passenger services officially began on Monday, with an IndiGo flight from Hyderabad becoming the first commercial aircraft to land at the airport. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said the airport, built by GMR with modern facilities, would give North Andhra a new identity.
Naidu said the launch of Bhogapuram Airport has led to some operations at Visakhapatnam Airport being discontinued, while plans are being prepared for its future use. He said road connectivity between Visakhapatnam and Bhogapuram would be improved and Beach Corridor works would also begin soon. He expressed confidence that the airport and supporting infrastructure would boost tourism, trade, investments and employment opportunities in North Andhra.
