Tricolour Hoisted at Terrorist’s Parents’ Home in Shopian

An unusual scene was witnessed in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day. The parents of Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abid Ramzan Sheikh reportedly hoisted the Tricolour on the rooftop of their home and participated in the celebrations. Abid, who is reportedly on the security agencies’ most-wanted list, is accused of operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and having links to several terror incidents in the region.

Security agencies have also alleged that Abid was involved in targeted attacks on non-local workers. Meanwhile, Independence Day celebrations were held peacefully across Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reiterated his government’s commitment to restoring the region’s statehood, while Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha hoisted the national flag at Lok Bhavan and urged people to work together towards building an inclusive society.
