K. A. Paul Opposes FCRA Bill

K. A. Paul has strongly opposed the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, warning that it could have serious consequences for India. Paul claimed that if the Bill is passed, companies such as Google and Microsoft could leave India and the economy could suffer. However, this remains his warning, and there is no evidence that either company has announced plans to leave India over the proposed legislation. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25, 2026.

The proposed legislation seeks to create a framework for the supervision, management and disposal of foreign contributions and assets of organisations whose FCRA registration is cancelled, surrendered or ceases. It also proposes a Designated Authority for handling such assets. The government says the changes are aimed at strengthening oversight and accountability. Following political opposition, the Bill was referred to a 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee on August 13 for further scrutiny.
