In a landmark move, the Maharashtra government has officially acquired the iconic Air India Building at Nariman Point, Mumbai, for ₹1,601 crore. The 23-storey structure, which has been a defining feature of Mumbai’s skyline since 1974, overlooks the Arabian Sea and remains one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. The acquisition marks a significant step in the state's efforts to strengthen administrative infrastructure.
The government plans to convert the building into a centralized hub for various state government departments and offices. Officials believe the move will streamline administrative operations, improve coordination among departments, and significantly reduce annual expenditure on rented office spaces. The transformation of the historic structure is expected to give a new purpose to one of Mumbai’s most celebrated architectural landmarks.
