The Andhra Pradesh government has given the green signal for the implementation of amendments to municipal laws, paving the way for changes in the conduct of municipal elections. According to the government order, the amended provisions will come into force from August 28. New rules have also been issued for conducting urban local body elections.
The government has issued another GO finalising the rules governing the elections of mayors and councillors. The amendments are expected to bring key changes to the electoral process in urban local bodies across the state. The Assembly had earlier passed the Municipal Laws (Fourth Amendment) Bill, paving the way for the restoration of direct elections for mayors and municipal chairpersons.
