KBR Park Flyover Plan Revised: Rs 1,090-Crore Projects May Be Scrapped for Single Elevated Corridor

The proposed plan to construct multiple flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park has been revised. With the recently introduced one-way traffic system significantly easing congestion, officials are considering scrapping the multiple projects estimated to cost Rs 1,090 crore. Instead, they have proposed constructing a single major elevated corridor from Punjagutta Nagarjuna Circle to Jubilee Hills Check Post.

Earlier, motorists had to wait for several minutes at signals across seven junctions around KBR Park. However, the one-way system introduced on a trial basis to facilitate construction works has delivered unexpected results. Traffic is now moving smoothly without vehicles having to stop at multiple points. As a result, officials have concluded that spending thousands of crores on multiple infrastructure projects may no longer be necessary.

Under the new proposal, a six-lane elevated corridor stretching approximately four kilometres from Punjagutta to Jubilee Hills Check Post will be constructed. The corridor is expected to allow motorists travelling from the IT corridor towards Punjagutta, Khairatabad and Secunderabad to move directly without getting caught at traffic signals.

The revised proposal could save the government more than Rs 1,000 crore in land acquisition and construction costs. Under the earlier plan, authorities were required to acquire 237 properties. The new elevated corridor is expected to significantly reduce the land acquisition burden.The successful one-way traffic system around KBR Park will continue as it is for now. Construction work that has already begun at certain locations is expected to be stopped, and the affected roads will be restored.The proposal for the new elevated corridor is still awaiting final approval from the government.
