Kandula Durgesh, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister, announced that the Central Government has sanctioned ₹98 crore for the development of Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla district. He stated that the government is focusing on transforming the beach into a major tourist destination by encouraging visitors to spend more time through improved infrastructure and facilities. As part of the plan, hotels and resorts are being developed with private participation to generate tourism revenue for the state. Along with Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad, Durgesh inspected the ongoing Swadeshi Darshan works and officially launched the “Bay of Bapatla” branding initiative.
The minister said the coalition government introduced a dedicated tourism policy after coming to power and granted industrial status to the tourism sector. He revealed that investments worth ₹20,000 crore were attracted within just 18 months through incentives and support for investors. Efforts are also underway to promote film shootings in Andhra Pradesh, especially in scenic destinations like Suryalanka Beach. Durgesh suggested that filmmakers mention shooting locations in subtitles to improve tourism visibility, citing the example of Maredumilli, which gained popularity after the filming of Pushpa: The Rise. Minister Anagani Satya Prasad said the government is promoting tourism under the slogan “Happy, Healthy Andhra Pradesh” through festivals and carnivals.
