Johnson & Johnson has agreed to pay around $5.5 billion, equivalent to nearly ₹47,000 crore, to settle thousands of lawsuits alleging that its talc-based products caused cancer. The proposed settlement is aimed at resolving years of legal disputes involving consumers who claimed they developed serious illnesses after using the company's talcum powder products.
Despite agreeing to the settlement, Johnson & Johnson has maintained that its talc products are safe and has repeatedly denied allegations that they are linked to cancer. The company stated that the settlement proposal is part of the ongoing legal process to bring an end to the lengthy litigation while continuing to defend the safety of its products.
