Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that the upcoming inauguration of Bhogapuram Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport is a proud moment for North Andhra Pradesh and will significantly boost trade, tourism, and economic activity in the region. He welcomed the airport's inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is attempting to claim political credit for a project that was largely executed during the YSRCP government's tenure.
Jagan said his government completed crucial stages of the project, including the concession agreement with GMR, land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement, statutory clearances, infrastructure development, and financial support worth nearly ₹1,200 crore. He argued that these efforts enabled construction to progress rapidly despite the COVID-19 pandemic and questioned the TDP government's delay in developing road connectivity to the airport, urging the government to focus on pending infrastructure instead of claiming credit.
