

Road accidents continue to be a major concern in India, with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reporting 4,87,707 road accidents across the country in 2024. According to the data, 1,77,175 people lost their lives, while 4,71,441 others sustained injuries. On average, 56 road accidents occurred every hour, resulting in nearly 20 deaths nationwide.
Tamil Nadu recorded the highest number of road accidents with 67,526 cases, while Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of fatalities at 24,118. The report also highlighted that two-wheeler riders accounted for the largest share of deaths, contributing 46.2 percent of the total fatalities. The findings underline the urgent need for stronger road safety measures and greater public awareness.
