High Court Warns HYDRAA Over Demolitions

The Telangana High Court strongly criticized HYDRAA over its demolition actions, observing that it is government officials not private individuals who are misleading the courts. Hearing a petition filed by Pemmassani Sudharani against the demolition of a compound wall and watchman's room on her 350-square-yard property in Survey No. 60 at Kondapur, Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar noted that no specific orders had been issued directing HYDRAA to carry out demolitions. The Court observed that officials had only communicated the need to protect government land in Survey No. 59.

The High Court further remarked that carrying out demolitions in Survey No. 60 without proper clarification reflected administrative failure and disregard for judicial orders. In a separate case related to disputed land in Vengal Rao Nagar, a Division Bench reduced the ₹50,000 penalty imposed on the HYDRAA Commissioner to ₹10,000 for the delayed filing of a counter affidavit. The Bench accepted the argument that registry objections had caused the delay and issued interim relief accordingly.
