Former Guntur East MLA’s Son Accused in Alleged Kidnap Over Tobacco Business Dispute

A tobacco trade dispute has taken a serious turn after the son of former Guntur East MLA and YSRCP leader Sheikh Mohammed Mustafa was accused of kidnapping the son of a businessman, along with two others, in Andhra Pradesh. According to police, the victims were allegedly intercepted while transporting tobacco bales from Koyyalagudem to Guntur and were forcibly taken away along with their vehicle. After receiving information from the victim's family, police coordinated with local units and successfully rescued the three individuals. Several suspects surrendered before the Pedakakani Police Station and were subsequently taken into custody.

Police have registered cases against the accused under multiple sections, including kidnapping and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The arrested suspects are being questioned, and medical examinations were conducted before producing them before a court. Meanwhile, the prime accused, Bashir, is reportedly absconding. Police said CCTV footage allegedly captured his vehicle heading towards Hyderabad, prompting the deployment of special teams to trace him. Authorities also stated that efforts are underway to locate former MLA Sheikh Mohammed Mustafa, whose phone was reportedly switched off.
