Amid rising tensions in West Asia, a sharp exchange of statements erupted between Turkey and Israel. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that Israel’s military actions in Syria and Lebanon could escalate into a broader threat. Speaking in Parliament, he called for the “liberation” of Jerusalem and said Israel’s actions pose a danger not just regionally but globally. He emphasized that Turkey would respond strongly if its interests in the Eastern Mediterranean or the safety of Turkish Cypriots were threatened. Erdogan also criticized global silence, urging the international community to adopt a firm stance against Israel.
Responding strongly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu labeled Erdogan an anti-Semitic dictator and accused him of supporting Hamas while suppressing political opponents and Kurds. Netanyahu said Erdogan has no moral authority to comment on Israel’s policies. Israel’s Foreign Ministry also reacted sharply, asserting that Jerusalem will remain Israel’s eternal capital and dismissing Turkey’s claims. The heated rhetoric highlights deepening geopolitical tensions in the region.
