Shiv Pratap Shukla appreciated the reforms implemented in Telangana prisons and emphasized the need to bring positive change in the lives of inmates. He participated in the inauguration of the “Feel the Jail” experience center and prison museum at Chanchalguda Central Jail. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that open jail systems were yielding encouraging results and recalled that he had also introduced several prison reforms during his tenure as a minister in Uttar Pradesh. He stressed that prisoners should not merely be confined, but should be provided with a healthy and reformative environment to help them transform their lives.
The Governor said the museum reflects the harsh and inhuman conditions prisoners faced during British rule before India’s independence. He recalled his own experiences of going to jail several times as a student leader and spending 21 days in prison during the Emergency period. Shiv Pratap Shukla stated that not all inmates are criminals by nature, and many become offenders due to circumstances. He urged prison officials to take every possible step to reform prisoners so that they do not return to crime after release. Senior officials, including Prison Department DG Soumya Mishra, attended the event.
