Telangana Cabinet gives green signal for municipal elections, takes several key decisions!

A two-hour Telangana cabinet meeting was held at Medaram under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. After the meeting, ministers Ponguleti, Seethakka, and Komatireddy briefed the media on the key decisions taken.

Key Cabinet Decisions:

1. Municipal Election

The Telangana state cabinet has decided to hold municipal elections at the earliest. Polls are due in 116 municipalities and seven corporations covering 2,996 wards and divisions. With the reservation process already completed, the cabinet directed officials to make arrangements to conduct the elections in February, while ensuring the schedule does not clash with Ramzan and Shivaratri festivals.

2. Godavari Pushkaralu 2027
Godavari Pushkaralu will be held from July 27 to August 3, 2027. The cabinet decided to constitute a sub-committee for the development of major and ancient temples along the Godavari river belt from Basara to Bhadrachalam. Plans will be prepared to develop the entire stretch as a single tourism circuit. Officials were directed to jointly prepare a detailed project report through the Endowments, Revenue, Forest, Tourism, and Archaeology departments, with the Chief Minister instructing that a comprehensive action plan be finalized by March 31.

3. Hyderabad Metro Rail Project

The cabinet reviewed the progress of taking over Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase–I from L&T and decided to expedite the process. While proposals for four corridors under Phase–IIA and three corridors under Phase–IIB are pending approval from the Central Government, officials were directed to speed up the land acquisition process. The cabinet approved land acquisition proposals estimated at ₹2,787 crore.

4. University Appointments

The cabinet approved the creation of 24 new posts in the Law College and 28 new posts in the Pharmacy College of Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda district. Approval was also granted for the Registrar post at Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University.

5. Eco Town Development

The cabinet approved the allocation of 494 acres of land to TGIIC for Eco Town development in Abdullapur Mandal near Hyderabad.

6. New Road to Ease Hyderabad Traffic

To reduce traffic congestion in Hyderabad city, the cabinet approved construction of a new 9-kilometre road from ICCC in Banjara Hills to Shilpa Layout Road.

7. Potlapur Lift Irrigation Project

The cabinet approved the Potlapur Lift Irrigation Project in Mulugu district, under which water will be lifted from Ramappa Cheruvu to supply irrigation to five villages. The project will fill 30 tanks and ponds and provide water to about 7,500 acres of farmland. It will be implemented at an estimated cost of ₹143 crore.
