ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming has overtaken Indian industrialist Gautam Adani to become Asia’s richest person, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The 43-year-old entrepreneur’s estimated net worth has crossed $105 billion, marking the first time he has topped Asia’s wealth rankings. His fortune has grown more than eightfold from the $13 billion recorded in March 2019, with updated valuations of ByteDance contributing significantly to the recent increase.
Zhang’s growing wealth is also linked to ByteDance’s expansion beyond short-video platforms into artificial intelligence. The company has developed AI products such as the Doubao chatbot and Seedance video-generation tool, strengthening its position in the technology sector. The latest ranking highlights the growing influence of technology and AI-driven businesses in Asia’s wealth landscape, alongside traditional sectors such as energy and infrastructure.
