The DigiYatra platform, designed to simplify airport entry through facial recognition technology, is being expanded to include international travel as well. At present, the service is available only for domestic travelers and is operational across 38 airports in the country. DigiYatra CEO Suresh Khadakbhavi stated that the service will also be extended to tier-3 cities. In addition, the platform is being scaled further to cover more airports, with plans to eventually make it accessible to international passengers.
DigiYatra has already conducted technical trials to test interoperability using electronic passports on routes such as Bengaluru–Doha. He explained that the identity details shared by passengers at the departure airport can also be used at the destination airport. However, this functionality will depend on international standards and bilateral agreements. Currently, Aadhaar details are used for registration on DigiYatra and the platform has now introduced the option to register using electronic passports as well, according to Suresh Khadakbhavi.
