Adani Group, led by India’s second-richest industrialist Gautam Adani, is set to enter the aircraft manufacturing sector. As part of this move, the group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brazilian aerospace major Embraer. According to reliable sources, Embraer has partnered with Adani Defence and Aerospace to establish a Final Assembly Line (FAL) in India for regional passenger jet aircraft. This initiative is expected to strengthen the Government of India’s Make in India programme. The regional jets, with seating capacities ranging from 70 to 146 passengers, are suitable for short- and medium-haul routes.
The proposed Final Assembly Line will be the first facility in the country for assembling fixed-wing passenger aircraft. With this agreement, Adani Group already active in airport development and management, aircraft MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) and pilot training will formally enter aircraft manufacturing.
Embraer, eyeing India’s vast aviation market potential, opened its office in New Delhi last year. Currently, nearly 50 Embraer aircraft are operating in India, serving government agencies, private operators and Star Air. Further details regarding the location of the assembly unit, investment outlay and timelines are expected to be announced at the aviation show to be held in Hyderabad later this month.
