The Adani Group, led by billionaire Gautam Adani, is planning to expand its aviation footprint by entering the aircraft engine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) segment along with Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) aircraft conversion.
According to a senior company official, the group is exploring opportunities to convert ageing passenger aircraft into dedicated cargo planes, a process known as P2F conversion. This move aligns with the growing demand for air cargo services and the need to extend the lifecycle of existing aircraft.
The Adani Group already has a strong presence in the aviation sector through airport operations, aircraft MRO services, and pilot training. Speaking on the company’s long-term strategy, Jeet Adani stated that the group has clearly divided its aviation business into two verticals. One focuses on airport infrastructure development, while the other caters to aviation services for civil and defence requirements.
Currently, Adani is actively involved in aircraft maintenance, pilot training, and defence aviation services. The group is now looking to expand its repair capabilities to include landing gear maintenance, aircraft painting, cargo aircraft conversions, and eventually aircraft engine servicing.
As part of this expansion plan, Adani Group is considering setting up new MRO facilities in cities such as Ahmedabad, Guwahati, and Bhubaneswar. This strategic move is expected to strengthen India’s aviation ecosystem while reducing dependency on overseas maintenance facilities.
