Meta has launched a new privacy-focused feature called “Incognito Chat Mode” for WhatsApp users, allowing them to interact with AI assistants in a more secure environment. According to the company, the feature is designed to reduce privacy concerns surrounding sensitive information shared during AI conversations. Meta stated that messages exchanged in this mode are processed securely in a way that even the company cannot access them. The platform also clarified that chat data will not be saved by default and will be automatically deleted after use, offering users greater confidentiality while interacting with AI tools.
The feature comes as competition intensifies among AI chatbot platforms such as Google Gemini and ChatGPT, both of which already provide options to disable chat history and prevent user data from being used for AI training. Meta explained that many users frequently ask AI assistants sensitive questions related to finance, health, and workplace matters, prompting the introduction of the new mode. WhatsApp Head Cathcart said the feature includes strong safeguards to prevent harmful or inappropriate interactions, with the chatbot refusing to answer certain queries or even terminating chats when necessary. Currently, the Incognito Chat Mode supports only text-based AI responses and does not allow image uploads. Meta also confirmed that users below the age of 13 will not be permitted to access the feature.
