SpaceX has announced plans to acquire AI coding startup Cursor in an all-stock deal valued at $60 billion. The acquisition, expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026 subject to regulatory approvals, follows a strategic partnership signed earlier this year between SpaceX and Cursor’s parent company, Anysphere. The move comes shortly after SpaceX’s record-breaking public listing and highlights the company’s growing focus on artificial intelligence and enterprise software solutions.
Founded in 2022 by Indian-origin entrepreneur Aman Sanger and fellow MIT graduates, Cursor has emerged as one of the fastest-growing AI coding platforms. The tool helps developers generate, edit, and review code using natural language prompts and competes with products such as OpenAI Codex and Anthropic Claude Code. Industry analysts believe the acquisition will strengthen SpaceX’s AI division, xAI, by providing advanced coding capabilities, enterprise customers, and access to a rapidly expanding developer ecosystem. The deal is also expected to help Cursor scale its AI models using SpaceX’s computing infrastructure while reducing operational costs.
