Caitlin Kalinowski, head of the robotics division at OpenAI, has resigned from her position. Reports indicate that her resignation is linked to a new agreement between OpenAI and the U.S. Department of Defense, allowing AI models developed by the company to be used in secret military networks.
In her social media statement, Kalinowski said the decision was not easy. While acknowledging AI’s crucial role in national security, she emphasized that issues like surveillance on citizens without legal permission and the development of autonomous lethal weapons require careful discussion before implementation.
OpenAI has confirmed her resignation and stated that the new agreement establishes responsible guidelines for using AI in national security, with clear limitations to ensure ethical and controlled application of technology.
