Google Maps may soon introduce a new artificial intelligence feature called “Ask Maps,” enabling users to have conversational interactions about locations and routes. According to reports based on an APK teardown, the feature is currently under development and is expected to bring a Gemini-like chat interface directly into the Maps platform. This move would further integrate Google Maps into the company’s broader AI ecosystem, following the rollout of hands-free voice-based AI navigation assistance. However, since the information is based on an APK teardown, the feature could be modified or even scrapped before an official release.
The “Ask Maps” option was reportedly discovered in Google Maps version 26.07.01.867227976. Once available, users may see a new chip with a Gemini sparkle logo and the text “Ask Maps” below the search bar. Tapping it is expected to open a chatbot-style interface where users can type queries related to routes, locations, and listings. The AI model is likely to be deeply integrated with the Maps database to deliver more accurate and app-specific responses.
Reports suggest the feature could initially roll out as an experimental option under a new “Try new features” section in the Settings menu. A banner message found in the code indicates that access may be limited at first, with availability expanding gradually. As of now, the feature is not accessible to users, including beta testers, and Google has not made any official announcement regarding its launch.
