Canva has announced Canva Brush, a new vision-language model developed by its in-house Canva Research team to enhance the editing capabilities of its AI design tools. Unlike AI tools that primarily generate images, Canva Brush is designed to understand the structure of an existing design and make requested changes while preserving its other elements. Users can give instructions in natural language, ranging from editing a single line of text to modifying multiple slides in an entire presentation. The model is designed to maintain consistency in typography, colours, spacing, images and layouts across different pages.
According to Canva, the model can handle complex design tasks, including creating a three-page bakery pitch deck with Art Nouveau-inspired visuals and backgrounds. It can plan the content across pages, generate and position text, select images and maintain a consistent visual style. Canva Brush uses an agentic process that writes and runs code to adjust design elements before inspecting the results and making further refinements. All generated elements remain editable, allowing users to manually change text, images, colours and layouts. Canva claims the model is up to 69 per cent faster at general design editing tasks and 46 per cent cheaper per edit than its previous design agent. It is initially available for supported design edits through Canva AI to Canva Pro subscribers. Users can open an existing design or attach or link one within Canva AI, then select Brush from the dropdown menu.
