AI Should Empower People, Not Replace Jobs: Satya Nadella

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has said that persistent fears over artificial intelligence replacing human jobs are contributing to a decline in public trust in the technology sector. He stressed that technology companies must work to rebuild that confidence by clearly demonstrating how their investments benefit communities. For instance, when a company builds a data centre, it should explain its value and potential benefits to local residents so that people understand why such infrastructure is necessary. Nadella also observed that AI is increasingly being used for purposes beyond simply improving productivity, suggesting that the coming AI era could be significantly different from previous technological shifts.

Nadella believes future organisations will thrive when human knowledge and creativity are combined with the capabilities of AI. He argued that artificial intelligence should not be treated as an independent intelligence replacing people, but rather as a tool that amplifies human thinking and helps individuals achieve their goals. Companies, he said, should focus on using AI to strengthen workers’ capabilities instead of removing employees and replacing them with technology. He also called for AI to contribute to the creation of new jobs, better wages and broader economic opportunities.
