Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned that artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly like a “tsunami,” while societies and governments are still unprepared to handle its far-reaching impact. In a special interview with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Amodei discussed the future of AI, India’s IT ecosystem, startups, emerging skills, and biotechnology. He explained that AI capabilities are growing exponentially due to the increasing availability of data and computing power, enabling models to approach human-level intelligence. Amodei emphasized that he founded Anthropic after leaving OpenAI with the goal of building safer and more responsible AI systems, noting that policymakers and the public must better understand the economic, geopolitical, and security implications of rapid technological change.
Highlighting India’s importance, Amodei said the country should not be viewed merely as a consumer market but as a key technology partner, with Indian IT and consulting firms capable of leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity rather than replace jobs. He advised startups to focus on building unique, hard-to-replicate solutions in sectors such as finance and biology instead of simple application wrappers. Looking ahead, he predicted that synthetic data would play a major role in training advanced AI systems and that AI-driven biotechnology could enable breakthroughs in treating complex diseases through innovations like peptide-based therapies, CAR-T cell treatments, and mRNA vaccines. He also noted that AI will transform software jobs, increasing demand for human-centric skills, critical thinking, and roles connected to real-world interactions.
