At the Adobe Max 2025 event, Adobe announced a wide range of new artificial intelligence (AI) upgrades across its creative platforms. The most notable among them are AI assistants now coming to Photoshop, Express, and Firefly, along with new AI-powered tools for generating and editing audio and video content. The company also introduced the latest version of its Firefly model and integrated additional partner AI models, aiming to enhance user creativity and flexibility. Over the past few years, Adobe has focused heavily on embedding AI into its creative ecosystem. The Firefly platform, which combines Adobe’s own models with selected third-party ones, has become the foundation for this AI-driven expansion. With the 2025 update, Adobe is bringing smarter and faster creative options to simplify workflows.
The newly introduced Firefly Image Model 5 delivers 4-megapixel resolution, photorealistic visuals, and prompt-based editing through an advanced large language model. It also supports multi-layered editing, allowing each element of a generated image to be modified separately. Users can fine-tune images manually or simply provide a prompt for the AI to make edits automatically. Adobe also partnered with external AI providers such as ElevenLabs for audio generation and Topaz for enhanced image creation, adding more diversity to its toolkit. Another significant upgrade is the introduction of custom Firefly models for individual users. Previously available only to enterprises, this feature allows creators to train Firefly on their own images to maintain a consistent artistic style. The feature is currently in beta and accessible via a waitlist.
In the audio and video space, Adobe introduced new Firefly tools such as Generate Soundtrack, which creates studio-quality licensed music for videos, and Generate Speech, which produces realistic voiceovers. A new Firefly Video Editor helps generate, organize, trim, and arrange clips. The soundtrack tool analyzes uploaded videos and recommends music styles, moods, and tempos that fit best, while still allowing users to make manual changes before finalizing. Another highlight is the arrival of AI-powered assistants across Photoshop, Express, and Firefly. These assistants can perform editing tasks through simple text commands while keeping users in control of every change. The Express AI assistant is now in beta, and Photoshop’s version has a waitlist for early access.
Lastly, Adobe previewed Project Moonlight, a new framework designed to connect all AI assistants across its platforms. This feature allows seamless collaboration between apps, eliminating the need to switch manually during creative work. A private beta version of this functionality was showcased at the event, marking another major step in Adobe’s vision for a unified, AI-driven creative ecosystem.
