US Open: Sabalenka Survives Noskova Thriller, Zverev Advances to Quarterfinals

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka battled past sixth seed Linda Noskova 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, 7-6 (10-7) in a thrilling women’s singles quarterfinal at the US Open. Sabalenka fired 12 aces and 42 winners in a match that remained fiercely competitive throughout. After taking the opening-set tiebreak, Sabalenka was pushed back by Noskova, who levelled the match and then moved 4-2 ahead in the deciding set. Sabalenka fought back to make it 4-4 and eventually prevailed in another tense tiebreak. Second seed Elena Rybakina defeated 13th seed Naomi Osaka 6-1, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals, while fourth seed Coco Gauff beat American compatriot Jovic 6-1, 6-4.

In the men’s singles, second-ranked Alexander Zverev booked his place in the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win over Italy’s Darderi. Zverev struck 13 aces and 43 winners during the contest. Karen Khachanov also progressed after overcoming 14th seed Learner Tien 7-5, 4-6, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 6-4 in a five-set battle. Khachanov produced nine aces and 48 winners, while David Goffin defeated Argentina’s Cerundolo 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Jesper de Jong also advanced after a dramatic five-set victory over France’s Giraud 3-6, 6-7 (0-7), 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
