Former India cricketer Rahul Dravid was reportedly disappointed with the way he was treated ahead of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Despite his experience and contributions to Indian cricket, he was left out of the World Cup squad. However, he was recalled for the subsequent England tour when the team needed his services. According to an account shared by journalists, Dravid felt that the contrasting decisions by the selectors and team management reflected a double standard. He reportedly confided in a few journalists, off the record, that he intended to retire from One-Day Internationals after the England series. He specifically requested that the information not be published at the time.
The journalists reportedly agreed to keep the conversation confidential, but the story was eventually revealed on their YouTube channel. The England tour consequently became Dravid’s final ODI assignment for India. In September 2011, he announced his retirement from One-Day Internationals, bringing an end to a distinguished career in the format. Dravid’s reported experience has since drawn attention to the challenges senior players can face when selection decisions and team requirements change. However, the account of his private conversation and the circumstances surrounding its disclosure should be attributed to the journalists who shared it, rather than treated as independently verified fact.
