Following in the footsteps of young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, another teenage talent is making headlines in Indian cricket. Fifteen-year-old Uma Kashvi has earned a place in the Delhi Capitals squad for the Women's Premier League (WPL), becoming the youngest player to secure a spot in the tournament. She surpassed the previous record held by 16-year-old Diya Dayal, who also represented Delhi Capitals. Hailing from Karnataka, Uma began playing cricket at the age of seven and has developed her skills as both a batter and a left-arm spin bowler. She first caught attention in 2023 when she scored an unbeaten 217 in an inter-school tournament in Bengaluru at just 12 years of age.
Uma continued to impress in age-group competitions. She captained Bengaluru Blasters in the 2025 Maharani Trophy and scored 48 off 42 balls against Mysore Warriors. She also played a key role in Karnataka's run to the semi-finals of the Under-19 One-Day Tournament. In the 2026 National Under-19 T20 Tournament, she claimed three wickets for 18 runs against Vidarbha in the quarter-finals, earning a place in India's Under-19 squad. She went on to take four wickets in three T20 matches and two wickets in two ODIs against Sri Lanka Under-19. In the Women's Under-15 One-Day Tournament, she amassed 516 runs at an average of 172, including three centuries and a half-century. Her standout performance included a 66-ball 156 against Manipur. Impressed by her performances, Delhi Capitals signed the batting all-rounder for ₹10 lakh at the latest auction. All eyes will now be on whether she gets an opportunity in the playing XI and how she performs in the WPL.
