BRS Legislature Party Deputy Leader Harish Rao has alleged that blasting activities are being carried out in violation of regulations near the Mallanna Sagar reservoir in Siddipet district. He claimed that there were suspicions of blasting at Medigadda in the past and alleged that fresh unauthorised explosions were now taking place as part of works to divert water from Mallanna Sagar for the Musi beautification project. On Thursday, he inspected the blasting site near the Mallanna Sagar bund at Tipparam village in Kukunoorpally mandal. During the visit, he questioned the contractor’s site engineer about the execution of the work. Harish Rao alleged that blasting had been taking place for the past two to three months without the required permissions from the Irrigation, Revenue and Police departments or the village panchayat.
Harish Rao clarified that the BRS was not opposed to the Musi rejuvenation project or the diversion of water to Hyderabad, but insisted that all work must comply with regulations. He said residents of Tipparam, located around a kilometre from the blasting site, had reported cracks in the walls of their houses, with some structures allegedly at risk of collapse. He also cited villagers’ concerns that heavy explosions at night had weakened the Mallanna Sagar bund and caused water leakage from the reservoir. He demanded the suspension of officials responsible for allowing the work without proper permissions and called for immediate criminal action against the contracting agency. He said he would write an open letter to Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on the issue.
