Team India’s premier fast-bowling weapon Jasprit Bumrah has once again proven his importance to the national side. The star pacer played a crucial role in India’s recent T20 World Cup triumph, underlining his value across formats. With the 2027 ODI World Cup scheduled to be held in South Africa during October–November, the Indian team management is keen to preserve Bumrah’s fitness and carefully manage his workload. As part of this strategy, Bumrah is expected to play fewer T20 internationals over the next 18 months and focus more on One Day Internationals.
After the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, Team India will begin preparations for the ODI World Cup. Reports suggest that the national selection committee, the Centre of Excellence headed by VVS Laxman, and the team management will jointly prepare a detailed workload management blueprint for Bumrah. However, the ace pacer is unlikely to compromise on playing Test cricket, especially in the World Test Championship (WTC) matches. According to a BCCI official, Bumrah’s fitness remains vital for any major international tournament, and India’s fast-bowling unit currently revolves around key bowlers such as Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana.
