Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has raised questions about the commitment and availability of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah for international cricket. Manjrekar expressed concern over Bumrah's selective participation, stating that the fast bowler appears willing to play only certain international fixtures while opting out of others. He pointed out that despite playing a full season of the Indian Premier League, Bumrah has often been unavailable for international assignments, including tours of Ireland and England.
Manjrekar further stated that if Bumrah is unable to play consecutive Test matches, he should not automatically be considered India's frontline bowling option. While acknowledging Bumrah’s exceptional cricketing intelligence, he said it was disappointing to see the pacer show limited interest in leadership roles. According to Manjrekar, Indian cricket should not alter its plans around a single player, and Bumrah should make himself available according to the team's requirements. He also remarked that Bumrah could have been a strong contender for captaincy in Tests and T20Is, but leadership opportunities eventually went to players like Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.
