Bangladesh cricketers have expressed strong dissatisfaction over the government’s decision not to take part in the T20 World Cup matches scheduled to be held in India. Several players rejected claims made by Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul that discussions were held with them. They clarified that the government only informed them about the decision and did not seek their views.
According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, a meeting held at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday was not meant for discussions but only to announce an already finalized decision. “It never felt like a discussion. No one asked for our opinion. By the time we entered the room, the decision was already made. It was a clear instruction from the government”, said a senior cricketer.
Another player stated that even though there was a risk of being removed from the tournament, the government did not change its stand. He added that it became clear their opinions would not affect the final decision.
