Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver at Asian Games.

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu fulfilled her long-standing dream of winning a medal at the Asian Games by securing a silver medal. It was her first Asian Games medal. Chanu had already won medals at the Olympics, World Championships and Commonwealth Games, with an Asian Games medal being the only major achievement missing from her collection. Her latest silver completes her medal haul across these major competitions.

Chanu’s achievement also ended India’s 28-year wait for a weightlifting medal at the Asian Games. Indian weightlifting legend Karnam Malleswari won a bronze medal at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games. India had not won another weightlifting medal at the Asian Games since then. Chanu’s latest silver has now brought an end to that long wait.
