A major train accident occurred in Egypt’s Giza Governorate after two passenger trains collided, leaving four people dead and more than 90 injured. A passenger train travelling from Al-Ayyat district towards Fayoum rammed into the rear of another train operating from Cairo to Aswan. The impact caused several coaches to derail. Emergency response teams rushed to the accident site and launched rescue operations to assist passengers.
Egypt’s Health Ministry confirmed that the injured passengers had been shifted to hospitals for medical treatment. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi ordered a prompt investigation into the accident to establish the cause of the collision. The incident has also brought attention to an earlier train accident in the same district last year, when two freight trains collided, injuring the locomotive driver and his assistant.
