Mumbai Indians have announced a major coaching change ahead of the upcoming IPL season, appointing former player and batting coach Kieron Pollard as the team’s new head coach. Pollard has been associated with the franchise for 16 years, making significant contributions as a player before moving into a coaching role. He will now take charge as head coach following the departure of Mahela Jayawardene, who previously held the position.
Mumbai Indians, five-time IPL champions, have struggled to maintain consistent performances in recent seasons, making the coaching change a significant development. Questions also remain over the team’s captaincy for the upcoming season. Reacting to his appointment, Pollard described the role as an honour and said Mumbai Indians had been an important part of his life and career. He thanked Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani and the entire Mumbai Indians family for placing their trust in him.
