The Indian Premier League 2026 auction highlighted inspiring stories of young cricketers who rose from hardship to success. Karthik Sharma from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, fulfilled his father’s unfulfilled dream of becoming an international cricketer. Despite financial struggles that forced his family to sell land and jewellery for training, Karthik’s explosive performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy caught attention. His rise was rewarded when Chennai Super Kings signed him for ₹14.2 crore.
Another heartwarming story came from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara, where Mangesh grew up in a lower-middle-class family with his father working as a truck driver. Travelling long distances for practice, he earned a reputation as a fast-bowling all-rounder through strong performances in the MP T20 League. Known for his generosity off the field, Mangesh was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for ₹5.2 crore in the mini auction.
Equally remarkable is the journey of Aqib Nabi from Baramulla, a region not known for cricketing facilities. Balancing education and sport, he trained in Bengaluru and developed into a sharp swing bowler. Consistent success in the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament earned him the nickname “Baramulla’s Dale Steyn.” At the auction, Delhi Capitals secured him for ₹8.4 crore. Aqib now dreams of setting up a cricket academy in Baramulla to support aspiring youngsters from his hometown.
